Faculty
Patricia Kroboth, PhD, is Dean of the School of Pharmacy. She received a BS in Pharmacy from SUNY at Buffalo, and earned her MS and PhDdegrees in pharmaceutical sciences from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy, where she has been a faculty member since 1980. She was the founding director of the center, which has ben in existence since 1984.
Janet Amico, MD, received her medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1975 and completed a residency for Internal Medicine (1975-1978) and a postdoctoral fellowship in Endocrinology and Metabolism (1978-1980) at the University of Pittsburgh prior to joining the faculty in 1980. Her research interests are focused upon the physiology of posterior pituitary hormones, oxytocin, and vasopressin in animals.
Robert Bies, PharmD, PhD, received a BS degree in Pharmacy from the University of Toronto in 1991, a PharmD from the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio in 1994 and his PhDin Pharmacology from Georgetown University in 1998. Dr. Bies has been a faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh
since September, 2000.
Judith Gavaler, PhD, is a Research Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. She received a BS in Chemistry from Hood College at Frederick, MD and earned her PhDdegree in Epidemiology from the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health. She has returned to the University of Pittsburgh from Oklahoma City where she was a director of the Women's Health Research Program at Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.
Sam Poloyac, PharmD, PhD, received his BS in Pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh in 1993. He then completed PharmD and PhDdegrees in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in 1999. Upon completion of the PhDdegree, he joined the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy where he has been a Assistant Professor since September 1999.
Michael Zemaitis, PhD, received a BS in Pharmacy from the University of pittsburgh in 1969, and earned his PhDin Pharmacology from the Milton S. Hershey Medical of the Pennsylvania State University in 1975. Dr. Zemaitis has been a faculty member since 1975 and has served as Vice-Chair (1998-2002) and Interim Chairman of Pharmaceutical Sciences (2002-Present).
Maggie Folan, RN, PhD, has been the Coordinator of the PRC since 1988. Dr. Folan received her BSN from Duquesne University in 1979 and her PhDin Clinical Pharmaceutical Science from the University of Pittsburgh, School of Pharmacy in 2003. Dr. Folan has been a member of the University of Pittsburgh faculty since 2003.
Tanya Fabian, PharmD, PhD, received her PharmD degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1998 and PhDfrom the University of Pittsburgh in 2003. Dr. Fabian has been a faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh since 2003.
Staff
Susan Price has been the Research Administrator of the PRC since 1984. Susan handles all correspondence with the Institutional Review Board (IRB). She also analyzes saccadic eye movement data and is responsible for collecting clinical research data from our study volunteers.
Emily Teodorski, Research Assocaiate, Emily graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2003 with a BS in Psychology and joined the PRC in February 2004. Previous research experience includes the effect of stress and hostility on cardiovascular health. Currently, Emily is investigating the effects of paroxetine on depression and anxiety in ICD patients while pursuing a Master of Social Work degree.
