Enhancing the Health of the Public
The public counts pharmacists among the most trustworthy of professionals. Pharmacists have a greater impact on patient care and therefore carry an attendant greater social responsibility than ever before. Developing methods for applying existing knowledge to real-life medication management for people in the community is a present and future challenge.
Educating the Next Generation of Practitioners and Scientists
Scholarship, fellowship, and student resource endowments and term awards open the door to educational opportunity and provide the strongest incentive to recruit and retain the best and brightest students.

Today's School of Pharmacy
The University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy has secured its place as one of the finest pharmacy academic and research facilities in the United States. The School of Pharmacy is addressing one of today’s most pressing healthcare concerns- the safe, effective, and cost-appropriate use of medications and related interventions.
Today, the School of Pharmacy:
- Graduates pharmacists who are adept at managing medications, avoiding drug related problems, and communicating with patients and other healthcare providers in today’s complex healthcare environment.
- Ranks among the nation’s top 10 pharmacy schools when measured by research funding form the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
- Leads in the spectrum of research that ranges from patient care outcomes to molecular genetics through its four centers: Center for Pharmacogenetics, Pharmacodynamic Research Center, Center for Pharmacoinformatics and Outcomes Research, and Center for Education and Drug Abuse Research (CEDAR).
Support from alumni and friends enables the School of Pharmacy to continually forge new paths in managing therapeutic interventions and pharmaceutical discovery. With the support of alumni and friends during the first seven years of the campaign, the School of Pharmacy:
- Increased student scholarship and award offerings sixfold.
- Renovated the primary PharmD teaching laboratory.
- Developed the Pharmaceutical Care Learning Center and Patient Counseling Center.
- Established its first endowed chair- the Joseph Koslow Chair in Pharmacogenetics.
- Recently established The Gordon S. Vanscoy Endowed Chair
