The Benedum Geriatric Center is an outpatient clinic serving the geriatric population of the greater Pittsburgh area. Patients seen here are followed by internists, psychiatrists, or both who specialize in geriatric care.
Services
The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Geriatrics collaborates with the clinic team to optimize pharmacotherapy. Services include, but are not limited to, determining the presence or absence of drug related problems; designing pharmacotherapeutic regimens that incorporates patient specific, disease specific and medication specific information; designing monitoring plans for pharmacotherapeutic regimens; and implementing appropriate adjustments of regimens based on patient outcomes.
Research
Current Research initiatives include documenting patient care outcomes of the service, and pharmacoepidemology of drug related problems, including medication underuse and therapeutic failure, in various patient populations.
Student Participation
First and fourth year pharmacy students. Pharmacy Practice, Community Practice, and Primary Care residents.
