Colleen M. Culley is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacy and Therapeutics of the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and a clinical pharmacy specialist in the Drug Use and Disease State Management Program (DUDSM) at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Dr. Culley is a native of Massachusetts. She earned both a BS Pharmacy, with a minor in French, and a Doctor of Pharmacy from Butler University. She completed an American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP)-accredited Specialty Residency in Drug Information at the University of Kansas Medical Center and Hoechst Marion Roussel (now known as sanofi aventis). She joined the faculty in August 2000. She is a Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist.
Dr. Culley’s vision is to promote cost-effective, safe and evidence-based use of medications via guidelines and recommendations to healthcare practitioners through daily patient care activities, internal education of peers, scholarship and educating the next generation of pharmacy practitioners.
Dr Culley provides clinical services through the DUDSM Program, which provides the infrastructure for active promotion of safe, effective and science-based use of medication through formulary management and innovative education of healthcare practitioners in the institution and throughout the health system. Dr. Culley has been recognized for quality improvement work, as part of several multidisciplinary teams, by the UPMC Presbyterian Quality and Innovation Fair with President’s Performance Award for Patient Safety in 2003 and 2008, and the Quality Cup (overall winner) in 2008.
She provides education on biomedical literature evaluation and effective written and verbal presentation of the literature throughout the University of Pittsburgh Doctor of Pharmacy curriculum.
Dr Culley is currently on the editorial boards of Clin-Alert® and the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy. She is a member of the ASHP, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and the American College of Clinical Pharmacy.
