Dr. Jonkman, originally from Bethlehem PA, attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy, receiving her PharmD in 2006. She subsequently began a two-year residency program at UPMC St. Margaret focusing in pharmacy practice, family medicine, and faculty development, completing the two-year combined pharmacy practice-family medicine specialty residency in 2008. As a resident she had the opportunity to teach physician residents, pharmacy residents, medical and pharmacy students in a variety of settings, from precepting to small group discussion to large group lectures and activities. She developed collaborative, working relationships with physicians, medical residents and patients at UPMC St. Margaret, both at the hospital and the 3 family health centers providing medication therapy management.
As a clinical instructor, Dr. Jonkman practices in a variety of underserved sites. These sites include North Side Christian Health Center, Birmingham Clinic, Salvation Army North Side Medical Clinic, Salvation Army Harbor Light Center and Pleasant Valley Shelter. Her research and teaching interests include community-oriented primary care, family medicine, health behavior theory, public health, care to the underserved, and global health. She is dedicated to providing quality care to all patients regardless of resources.
Dr. Jonkman is a member of the Pennsylvania Pharmacists Association, the American College of Clinical Pharmacists, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, and the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.
