Ada C. Mezzich, Ph.D., M.I.S is an Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Science and Psychiatry, University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Mezzich has a career commitment to research on the etiology, course, and transmission of adolescent onset substance use disorders (SUD). In addition, she is interested in studying the cognitive, behavioral and affective dysregulation and child neglect as risk factors of adolescent onset substance use disorders. She is a Co-PI in the NIDA-funded Center for Education and Drug Abuse Research where she is the director of the Computing and Information Science Core, Director of the Family and Ecology Module and a Co-Investigator in the Developmental Psychopathology Module. She is also a Co-Investigator in the Alcohol Research Training Center funded by NIAAA. Her research Interests are: (1) Continuity of SUD from adolescence to young adulthood and intergenerational transmission of SUD and maltreatment in women with emphasis on cognitive functioning, and male partner violence and SUD, (2) psychological dysregulation as a vulnerability factor for adolescent onset SUD and (3) impact of child neglect on substance use and concomitant psychopathology, physical/dental health, and risky sexual behavior.
