Patricia Kroboth is dean of the School of Pharmacy and professor of pharmaceutical sciences. She received a BS in pharmacy from the University at Buffalo, and earned the MS and PhD degrees in pharmaceutical sciences from the University of Pittsburgh, where she has been a faculty member since 1980. Beginning in 1988, she served as chair—first of the Department of Pharmacy and Therapeutics and later of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. In 2002, Dr. Kroboth was appointed interim dean and subsequently, dean.
Dr. Kroboth is nationally recognized for her professional and research accomplishments. She is currently the elected chair of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy Council of Deans and member of the Board of Directors through 2011. She is an elected Fellow of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy and of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists; she has also held elected positions in both organizations. In 2008, the University at Buffalo presented her with the Wills G. Gregory Award, the premier alumni recognition award.
Under her leadership, the School’s endowment has more than doubled, which translates to an increased number and magnitude of scholarships as well as support for faculty. Research programs have continued to prosper. Curricular tracks to allow specialization, including the business of pharmacy and research, have been established. She has overseen the continual renewal of the physical space in Salk Hall through renovation as well as the acquisition of additional space to support programs. Her experiences in community and hospital practice shaped her focus on assuring that pharmacists provide care, not just medicines, for patients. Says Kroboth, “We have tremendous opportunity everywhere I look. It is a great time to be a pharmacist. It is great to be at Pitt.”
