Program Track: Drug Disposition and Response

Primary Advisor: Raman Venkataramanan

Current Research:

My current research focuses on drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics in pregnancy:
1. to evaluate changes of the activity and expression of some metabolizing enzymes of interest in pregnancy in vivo model
2. to predict and evaluate changes in the pharmacokinetic parameters of varied drugs administered during pregnancy
3. to elucidate the molecular mechanism behind those changes

Models to be used at the first step will be animals, animal tissues, and so on. Techniques to be used include preparation of microsomes, enzymatic incubation in microsomes, quantitative analytical assays (HPLC, HPLC-MS), extraction of RNA and reverse transcription, real-time PCR, western blot, animal treatment, and statistical data analysis.
