Program Track: Drug Disposition and Response

Primary Advisor: Ramen Venkataramanan

Current Research:

The primary goal of our research has been to identify factors that regulate the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs in small bowel transplant patients in order to optimize drug therapy in this patient population. We are interested in investigating the process of absorption, distribution, transport (p-glycoprotein and other transporters),metabolism (phase 1 and phase 2 pathways) and excretion of drugs small bowel transplant patients. The current goal is to investigate the pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamic changes in drugs during acute rejection for small bowel transplant patients.
1. Drug interactions between different drugs ( Voriconazole) and various immunosuppresants (Tacrolimus,Sirolimus, and cyclosporine) using hepatocytes model.
2. Vitamin B6 deficiency in small bowel transplant patients, mechanisms and implications.
