Our research goal is to improve the outcome of therapy in HIV patients through understanding the mechanisms of drug induced liver injury and pathways that can be targeted to ameliorate such adverse events. My current project is focused on understanding the role of the nuclear receptor PXR in modulating hepatotoxicity in protease inhibitor based antiretroviral therapy. The findings from this research will provide an understanding of the mechanisms that lead to liver injury and the pathways that can be targeted to prevent or treat injury.
