Sophia Herbert, PharmDAssistant Professor, Pharmacy and Therapeutics
Sophia Herbert (formerly Cothrel, PHARM ’19), PharmD is passionate about supporting community pharmacists by providing them with the evidence and tools they need to transform community pharmacy practice into a sustainable, patient-centered healthcare model. Dr. Herbert joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy and Therapeutics in 2022. Dr. Herbert completed her Doctor of Pharmacy degree and a Community Pharmacy Practice Development Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. Dr. Herbert focuses on the development, implementation, and evaluation of community pharmacy-based patient care services, including the University-wide vaccination and wellness efforts. Dr. Herbert is a leader in technology development, workflow design, and documentation for community pharmacy practice. As a proponent of the pharmacist eCare Plan technology, Dr. Herbert has worked collaboratively with faculty across courses to implement and utilize eCare Plan software, combining community pharmacy patient care services with medication dispensing– a first for community pharmacy and for PittPharmacy. Dr. Herbert has a growing national reputation for her leadership in community pharmacy practice transformation through the national Community Pharmacy Enhanced Services Network (CPESN® USA). She teaches in several courses in the pharmacy curriculum including Pharmacist Patient Care Process 1 and 2, Community Pharmacist Practice 1 and 2, and in the Community Leadership and Innovation in Practice (CLIP) Area of Concentration.
