Aaron S. Devanathan, PharmD, PhDAssistant Professor, Pharmacy and Therapeutics
Dr. Aaron Devanathan is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy and Therapeutics. His research focuses on the clinical pharmacology of antiretrovirals and their disposition into cells, body fluids, and tissues with the goal of understanding how inflammatory processes associated with comorbidities affect their pharmacology.
He received his PharmD from the University of Pittsburgh and completed PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at UNC Hospitals. He earned a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences and completed the UNC-Duke Collaborative Clinical Pharmacology T32 Postdoctoral Training Program before accepting a faculty position at the University of Pittsburgh.
Research Interest
The main research focus of the Devanathan laboratory includes the clinical pharmacology of antiretrovirals and their disposition into cells, body fluids, and tissues. Our goal is to understand how inflammatory processes associated with comorbidities affect their pharmacology. Furthermore, we will examine how modulators of the immune system affect antiretroviral pharmacology due to inflammatory responses.
To achieve the long-range goal of our research program to understand this important clinical pharmacology intersection, we utilize novel quantitative analytical techniques, sophisticated multi-omics methods, and pharmacometrics analyses. This multipronged approach will help us holistically understand these area and help vulnerable populations in Pittsburgh and beyond.
