Levent Kirisci

Ph.D.
Professor

Dr. Kirisci is a tenured Professor in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Kirisci is the director of the three-course sequence in Biostatistics in the School of Pharmacy graduate program. He is a statistician with extensive experience in multivariate statistics, especially in longitudinal data analysis including mixed modeling, mixture modeling, and psychometric methodology including item response theory and computerized adaptive testing. Dr. Kirisci presented the factor structure of substance use disorder severity in adult men and women using item response theory (IRT) modeling. The symptoms of eleven SUD diagnoses have been shown to be scalable as indicators of a unidimensional latent trait. He has also broad knowledge in latent growth curve modeling, including randomized cluster design and cluster stepped wedge design. Dr. Kirisci is Director of the Statistics Core of the NIDA-funded Center for Education and Drug Abuse Research. He has been funded by a K02 award (K02 DA 017822) pertaining to development and validation of a measure quantifying risk for substance use disorder liability, called transmissible liability index (TLI).

Dr. Kirisci developed the TLI for male and female subjects for different age groups. He replicated the TLI for different databases, including NESARC, Minnesota Twin Study, COGA, Virginia Twin Study, etc. Specifically, Dr. Kirisci has collaborated with national and international researchers on grant applications and several research papers. His profound statistical expertise supports his role in analyzing specific aims. He has published over 200 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
