The Clinical Pharmaceutical Scientist Program is a specialty PhD training track in which students with expertise in pharmacotherapeutics learn to be independent scientists utilizing contemporary research approaches to investigate both the clinical and mechanistic elements of drug therapy issues, are involved in human based research as part of their thesis research. These human based studies may include, clinical study design, investigational review board approval, and/or outcomes research. This specialty training track is available in each of the four major research focus areas of the PhD program, including: Drug Disposition and Response; Genomics, Proteomics, and Drug Discovery; Drug Targeting and Delivery; and NeuroEndocrine Pharmacology.

Typically, applicants for the Clinical Pharmaceutical Scientist Program have a prior advanced degree in the health sciences (PharmD, RN, etc); however, training options are available for students with Bachelor of Science degrees in science related fields.
