Focus Areas
Students may choose to concentrate their studies in one of the following four primary focus areas.

Each focus area has a designated series of required and elective courses. All Ph.D. students, including those in the Clinical Pharmaceutical Scientist Program, must select a focus area of study prior to the start of their second year. Click here for a PDF of course requirements for all focus areas.

Core courses are courses that all students in the PhD program must take.

Required courses are courses that are not part of the Core curriculum, but are required for completion of studies within a given focus area. All Core and required courses must be completed prior to the comprehensive exam.

Students are required to earn a certain number of credits in journal club courses. Depending on the focus area, students are allowed to "choose from" three journal clubs to accumulate these credits.

Elective courses are courses that are not required by the program, but are available and may be helpful for students engaged in particular areas of study. In some instances, a student's doctoral committee may add an elective course to the student's required program of study.
