Come to the annual University of Pittsburgh Mini Graduate School weekend.
The mini graduate school weekend is designed specifically for students who are enrolled in a professional or undergraduate curriculum, and are seriously considering advanced doctoral level training in basic or clinical sciences. This two-day program consists of faculty research presentations, interactions with graduate students, and interactive laboratory sessions.
Learn about Career Opportunities, Research, and Training
Brief faculty presentations describe careers in academia and industry, as well as ongoing research at the School of Pharmacy, and specialized training in both basic and clinical research. Participants learn about the large variety of options available to students in the PhD program, and have the opportunity to ask detailed questions about graduate school in general, and about graduate education and research at the School of Pharmacy.
Meet with Graduate Students
There is no better way to learn about doctoral training than to talk with students currently enrolled in a PhD-level program. Several opportunities are provided for participants to interact with graduate students. In addition to a formal question/answer period, an informal evening is planned during which participants have the opportunity to "hang out" with and ask students about their backgrounds and experiences in graduate school. This is consistently rated as one of the highlights of the program, and is a great time to explore why other students have chosen to enter the PhD program, and the opportunities it provides.
Experience the Labs
Each Mini Graduate School participant has the opportunity to select two interactive laboratory break-out sessions. These sessions are designed to provide more detailed information about the laboratory environment for students engaged in different areas of research, such as medicinal chemistry, pharmacokinetics, drug delivery, and clinical research. These sessions also provide another opportunity for students to ask detailed questions about graduate training in pharmaceutical sciences.
