The University of Pittsburgh Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences offers summer research internships for students considering a career in basic or clinical research. The purpose of these internships is to provide promising candidates the opportunity to experience what research is like by engaging in an intensive eight week research program. Participants select from predefined research projects, to be completed during the internship under the direction of a faculty advisor. In addition to laboratory work, students are required to complete specified research training modules, and to attend weekly discussion sessions and graduate student seminars. At the end of the internship, each participant will prepare an abstract and poster of their research, and give a ten-minute slide presentation to the faculty, graduate students, and interns.

Outcomes:

Hours, Stipends and Academic Credits

Full-time participation for a period of eight weeks is required. Students accepted into the program will receive a stipend of $3200, less housing expenses, and will have their travel expenses paid for as well. Students who complete the program can receive academic credit in lieu of a stipend when arranged in advance.
