Central Pharmacy

Description: This rotation is designed to provide an opportunity for the Pharmacy Practice Management Resident to identify and develop their leadership style, and when applicable; gain an understanding of change in management practices. The Resident will also gain a deeper understanding of the Central Pharmacy Practice Model and its place in a rapidly changing, and progressive academic health system environment.

The objectives of the rotation are as follows:

  1. Goal: Design and implement quality improvement changes to the organization’s medication-use system.
  2. Goal: Prepare and dispense medications following existing standards of practice and the organization’s policies and procedures.
  3. Goal: Place practice priority on the delivery of patient-centered care to patients.
  4. Goal: Conduct practice-related investigations using effective project management skills.
  5. Goal: Use information technology to make decisions and reduce error.
  6. Goal: Contribute to the development of a new pharmacy service or to the enhancement of an existing service.
  7. Goal: Understand the principles of a systematic approach to staff development in pharmacy practice.
  8. Goal: Resolve conflicts through negotiation.
  9. Goal: Maintain confidentiality of patient and proprietary business information.
  10. Goal: Use approaches in all communications that display sensitivity to the cultural and personal characteristics of patients, caregivers, and health care colleagues.
  11. Goal: Communicate effectively.
  12. Goal: Balance obligations to oneself, relationships, and work in a way that minimizes stress.
  13. Goal: Manage time effectively to fulfill practice responsibilities.
  14. Goal: Make effective use of available software and information systems.
