Margaret Verrico, BSAssistant Professor, Pharmacy and Therapeutics
Margaret M. Verrico is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacy and Therapeutics of the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. She graduated summa cum laude from this same School of Pharmacy in 1993.
Prior to graduation, Ms. Verrico participated in a two-year Drug Information Internship. She was named “University Scholar” and was the designated representative of her graduating class. Ms. Verrico received the “Mylan Excellence in Pharmacy Award” and the “McNeil Pharmaceuticals Dean’s Award.” She accepted the invitation to join the Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society and the National Golden Key Honor Society. Upon graduation, Ms. Verrico worked in Drug Information Services at Thrift Drug, Inc.
In 1994, Ms. Verrico accepted a faculty position at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. Ms. Verrico is active in both didactic and experiential teaching of medical and pharmacy residents; medical, nursing and pharmacy students, and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Health System (UPMC HS) clinical staff.
The focus of Ms. Verrico has been in Drug Information, Adverse Drug Event (ADE) reporting and analysis, and Medication Safety efforts. Ms. Verrico has received seven UPMC Presbyterian Quality Improvement Awards. She is included in Who’s Who in Medicine and Health Care and is a member of the United Way Women’s Leadership Initiative.
Ms. Verrico has served as co-chair and as a member of numerous committees including the UPMC PUH Patient Safety/Risk Group and the UPMC PUH Safe Medication Practice Quality Improvement Subcommittee. Ms. Verrico presents Patient Safety issues to numerous UPMC HS Committees. Her global mission is to improve the quality of care through Patient Safety efforts.
