Dr. Pater graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy in 1996. Following graduation, she completed an ASHP accredited Primary Care Residency at Shands Jacksonville (formerly University Medical Center, Jacksonville, FL).

Since that time, Dr. Pater has been caring for patients in the community in a variety of outpatient settings. She is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy where she coordinates the Self-Care course and the Pharmacist Patient Care 2 course. Dr. Pater has a clinical practice at the UPMC Matilda Theiss Health Center. She is a past president of the Allegheny County Pharmacist Association, and currently remains an activity member on ACPA's board of directors. Dr. Pater also serves as a preceptor for IPPE and APPE core and elective rotations. She is currently serving as the Interim Residency Program Director for the PGY2 -Global Health/Underserved Residency. Dr. Pater has recently been named as a Co-Chair of the Nonprescription Medicine Academy.
