Olivia Romano is a PhD student in the Clinical Pharmaceutical Scientist track under the mentorship of Dr. Philip Empey. Her dissertation research aims to improve precision sedation in critically ill children using pharmacogenomic and pharmacokinetic approaches. In addition to research, Olivia has completed a master’s level certificate in Clinical and Translational Research through the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine as well as certificates in Pharmacokinetic/Pharmacodynamic Modeling (Certara) and Pharmacogenomics (Test2Learn). She also serves as a Teaching Fellow for pharmacokinetics and career development courses. Olivia’s graduate training integrates clinical pharmacology, precision medicine, and quantitative approaches to prepare for a career in clinical drug development; she intends to pursue a future career as a clinical pharmacologist in industry.
Olivia received her B.S. in Nutritional Sciences with a focus in biochemistry and physiology from the Pennsylvania State University in 2021. Before graduate school, she worked as a Clinical Research Associate in the Cancer Center at Massachusetts General Hospital. Outside of graduate school, Olivia enjoys traveling, being outside, and fostering rescue cats.
