Sophia Herbert (formerly Cothrel, PHARM '19), PharmD is passionate about supporting community pharmacists by providing them with the evidence and tools they need to transform community pharmacy practice into a sustainable, patient-centered healthcare model. Dr. Herbert joined the faculty as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy and Therapeutics in 2022. Dr. Herbert completed her Doctor of Pharmacy degree and a Community Pharmacy Practice Development Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy.
Dr. Herbert focuses on the development, implementation, and evaluation of community pharmacy-based patient care services. This includes vaccination and wellness services at the Pitt Vaccination and Health Connection Hub, where she also supports interprofessional education and service development and implementation. Dr. Herbert is a leader in technology development, workflow design, and documentation for community pharmacy practice. She has been instrumental in the growth and impact of the ACT (Academia-Community Transformation) Pharmacy Collaborative, co-leading the development of the ACT Patient Casebook, the national 50 Stories from 50 States campaign, and the ACT Pharmacy Closures Map.
Dr. Herbert teaches in several courses in the pharmacy curriculum including Pharmacist Patient Care Process 1 and 2, Community Pharmacist Practice 1 and 2, and coordinates the Community Leadership and Innovation in Practice Area of Concentration at the School of Pharmacy. She also directs Pitt Pharmacy’s Silver Scripts Program, a longstanding program bringing together pharmacy and students across other health science disciplines to provide care at local senior centers.
