Pitt Pharmacy accepts applications from qualified applicants, including Pitt students who do not have the pharmacy guarantee or individuals who have attended an accredited US or English-Speaking Canadian institution who have most preprofessional prerequisite courses complete.

The PharmD Admissions Committee holistically reviews all applicants. The Committee looks for evidence of sound scholarship, community involvement, leadership, and communication skills.

Evidence of sound scholarship includes:

  • Overall preprofessional course performance of C or better and an overall prerequisite course GPA of 3.0 or greater
  • Performance in required science and math courses GPA of C or better and an overall GPA in science and math courses of 3.0 or greater
  • Consistency of course performance
  • Depth and breadth of courses

Evidence of community involvement includes, but is not limited to:

  • Participation in activities that benefit the community
  • Significant involvement in college organizations or groups

Evidence of leadership includes, but is not limited to:

  • Election or selection for positions of leadership by faculty or peers in organizations, activities, or teams
  • Positions held within an organization
  • Service as resident or teaching assistant or tutor

Evidence of communication ability includes, but is not limited to:

  • Performance in communications or public speaking course (these courses are not required preprofessional courses but are strongly recommended)
  • Written personal statement in the PharmCAS application
  • Extracurricular activities and work experience requiring communication skills
  • Pitt Pharmacy writing assessment (upon invitation to interview)
  • Interview, upon invitation
