Financial Aid

University of Pittsburgh Financial Aid Office provides a full suite of financial aid services available to all Pitt students.

We encourage you to complete the Federal FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is more than a tool to get student loans.  It can be used to award scholarships, grants, and work study funding. When used in tandem with our PittFund$Me scholarship system, having FAFSA on file with Pitt helps provide the best opportunities for resources to help pay for your graduate or professional education.

As a PharmD student, keep the following in mind when completing financial aid forms:

For students who do NOT have a Bachelor’s degree prior to attending pharmacy school

  • Professional Year 1 (P1) and Professional Year 2 (P2) of the PharmD curriculum are considered undergraduate level even though you are working on the professional doctor of pharmacy degree
  • Answer questions on financial aid documents pertaining to college level as third year or junior level.
  • Professional Year 3 (P3) and Professional Year 4 (P4) are considered graduate level for ALL students. Financial aid forms documenting that you are working towards a doctorate and/or graduate/professional degree will be acceptable at that time.

If you have earned a Bachelor’s degree

Your college status will be graduate for all four years in the pharmacy program and you would complete the question as working towards your professional doctorate degree.

University Scholarships:

Provides a summary of academic scholarships available to students at the University of Pittsburgh. The university uses the PittFund$Me platform. Students are encouraged to apply to any scholarships to which they may be eligible in the platform, including those outside Pitt Pharmacy.

Pitt Pharmacy Scholarships:

Pitt Pharmacy is grateful to the many donors who make our scholarships possible each year.  The School of Pharmacy has an appointed committee who reviews each individual applicant each year.  Scholarships are awarded based on financial need with consideration of merit and service. The needs of the applicant pool change annually, and scholarships are awarded based on the individual with regard to the overall needs of the entire applicant pool.

Students enrolled and entering in the professional PharmD program are encouraged to apply for scholarships. The scholarship application for Pitt Pharmacy is through PittFund$Me. A scholarship application must be submitted to be considered for an award each year.

Each Spring, PharmD students will be notified of the opening of the annual scholarship applications.  Students are notified of awards in the Summer. Any scholarship received will be split between the coming Fall and Spring semesters.

Students do not apply for specific scholarships. Specific scholarship awards may vary from year to year. For a list of the School of Pharmacy scholarships and criteria, please visit:

We invite all current students to stop into the Pitt Pharmacy Current Student Center (5th Floor of Salk Hall) to meet with staff to discuss financial needs and be connected to resources.  Pitt Pharmacy hosts information sessions throughout the year to provide students opportunities to connect with University Financial Aid resources.
